35mm Film vs Digital - Annie & Andrew edition

In the first of our comparisons of Film vs Digital photographs from the same wedding, we have these romantic portraits taken back in October of Annie & Andrew.

As you can clearly see below, there is a pretty stark difference between the 2 mediums. Aside from the super cool 100% authentic film borders; the tones, the clarity, the vibe is just completely different. Depending on the light, the film stock(type of film used) and cameras snapped(we use many!) film photographs can vary quite a bit, and that’s the magic inherent in film photography. It is literally a chemical reaction that develops the film!

Now don’t get us wrong, digital photography is amazing and the flexibility and security it gives us all throughout your wedding day ensures us that we will snag every single photography we need.

But this is your wedding, why should you have to pick between one or the other? Why not have both? ;)

♬ Striking that Decisive Moment Chord ♬

The nature of digital wedding photography forces its shooter to sometimes spray and pray with such fast action, quick moments, firing shutter shots, casting the large net, for the purpose of insuring that we have what we need to tell the story.

However, in the world of film, we are immediately pinned back to our origins, our innate passions. Film requires pure intention, attention, patience, and timing.

Nothing on earth projects a frozen moment more beautifully, more spiritually, more tonally, and with more feeling than a film photograph. Specifically, a dramatic black and white that captures an entire novel in a split Second. Capturing Liana & Matthew’s wedding is a perfect example. You can see their story, told with thoughtfulness and intention. The nature of film photography is that you will always miss a few shots but when you strike that decisive moment chord, it REALLY hums and it is the reason we do what we do. We are humbled shooting film, and we are all rewarded when we respect it.

It is an honor to share these photographs with our couples, freezing beautiful forever moments on film and knowing they can reach for, and relive them, at any point they choose.

Autumnal Bliss on 35mm Film

While we shoot your entire wedding on our top of the line high resolution digital Sony A7R4’s, we still take a boatload of 35mm film photos. And why do we still shoot 35mm film in the age of digital crispyness, we think as you can see here, the results speak for themselves. Another added bonus of shooting film is that we can get it developed and scanned the same week as the wedding which we then send off as an added bonus sneak peek!

Also, how freakin cool are these authentic film borders that show the type of film stock we use? We will get into our super special film scanning solution we use in-house that allows us to retain these film borders in another blog post but for now, enjoy these 2 beautiful souls on their wedding day on that one perfect autumn afternoon a couple of weeks ago.. ❤️☮
